Post #6: Reflection on principles of communication/teamwork on programming and problem-solution projects

In this post, I will split my post into three parts. The 1st and 2nd are the assessments of my level of competence for communication and teamwork skills before and after taking this module respectively. The 3rd will be on the impacts that the new developed skills will have on my life.

Before the module, I had problems cooperating with people, especially during projects. This is because I had difficulties communicating with them as my command of English was poor. It was hard to convey my message across. This results in my low level of proficiency in ‘communicating’ and ‘teamwork’ due to the lack of practice.

However, after I underwent this CG1413 module and had picked up many valuable skills from these lessons, which are applicable even for my life outside school. In addition, I get to experience how to conduct interviews, carry out presentations, and defend my ideas against rebuttals. Moreover, since there are two projects that are held concurrently. I obtained the chance to hone my teamwork skills because I have to work with two different sets of group members. These intimidating, yet, fun activities are effective in making me realize that there are vast rooms for improvements to be done to improve my English. Although I had gained more confidence in taking the initiative to communicate with others, I still require more practice to perfect my pronunciations and expand my vocabulary to express my thoughts to others effectively.

In this final paragraph, I shall list out the skills that I have acquired after the module and evaluate the ramification these skills have on my future endeavors.
1.Communication skills
2.Teamwork ability
3.Presentation
4.Blogging and commenting

Communication skills
Verbal communication is the most convenient method of transferring information. After undergoing the CG1413 module, I will be able to convey my intention to others more effectively through the use of suitable and appropriate words. Furthermore, I also learnt how to communicate with people from various countries of different culture.

Teamwork
Since this world has a population of 6.8 billion (6,814,200,000) people, eventually I have to work in a group and develop cooperation, partnership with others. Thus, after this module, I had gained the valuable lesson of cooperating with people of diverse background and culture.

Presentation
In the future, I might have to go for job interview, give presentations, and sell ideas to clients. Therefore, this module equipped me with the relevant tools to tackle such challenges, as there were ample chances in the module to practice and hone my presentation skills.

Blogging and commenting
In this module, I had the opportunity to own a blog and write comments for my blog mates. These activities allowed me to develop my ability in bringing across negative comments in a neutral tone. Moreover, it brushes up my English because it compels me to put my thoughts into written form, which I am weak in.

In conclusion, I believe these valuable skills will help me fulfill my fullest potential and accomplish more achievements.

  1. Hi Jonathan,

I liked the format of your blog post where you introduced the aspects you were going to comment on. This is good as you have evidently applied the report writing skills in this blogpost. Since this is a blog post to evaluate teamwork and communications, hence the use of this format is appropriate.

You had improved in your communications and teamwork although, as you mentioned, you still have room for improvement.

For your blog, one way to improve is evaluation in your final paragraph. My opinion is that your evaluation in your final paragraph is too brief to have a lot of evaluation. One way you can change it is by evaluating only 1 or 2 aspects of communication.

  3. Hi Jonathan,
I really enjoyed reading your post and the pictures that you included added color to your post. The way you organised your post was very clear and precise. I could get a clear view of what you learnt and how this module benefited you. From what I read, I realised that this module really helped you to build up on your inter personal and presentation skills. I am also glad that you identified your mistakes and I am sure you are making the necessary effort so as to avoid such kind of mistakes. I liked the way you applied the 7C’s of writing in your blog post. This shows that the module did have an effect on you. The way you related whatever we learnt now to our future was also very interesting, though I missed them out in my post. One thing that you missed out was a proper conclusion. Other than that, it was really an enjoyable read. I hope that you learnt some valuable lessons from this course and I wish you all the best in your future! :)
    Cheers,

  4. Hey Jonathon

First of all, let me acknowledge your blog aesthetics. I think the relevant images you attach in your posts are very interesting and make your blog stand out. In addition, the layout and theme colours make your blog look neat and easy to read and navigate.
You have also added in additional reflections on your past blog posts which makes me sense sincerity in your blog posts as you have taken extra effort to evaluate yourself again.
In this post, you clearly listed out a list of skills you have learnt from this module. Although this is very clear and concise, I feel that the list is not exhaustive as I believe we have indirectly learnt a lot more skills as well, such as time management and learning to delegate tasks efficiently and so on. Moreover, the skills you have mentioned have quite some overlapping amongst themselves as teamwork and communication skills are very much related. Hence, perhaps the teamwork skills are a subset of communication skills and you may want to recollect other aspects that effective communication skills are applied in.
Apart from that, I felt that your post was a pleasant read as you added in details on how you can apply the skills you have learnt in the future. I think this is a very crucial point of evaluation as this makes us realize the value of our module. (:

  5. Dear Jonathan,

Your pictures are interesting and attractive, and the choice is also appropriate. The format of your blog is really impressive. You clearly analyzed your content and showed us your improvements and achievements. But for the developed skills session, because you covered many things at a time, you cannot provide enough details. And even though you tried to cover as much as you can, you still miss out some points. Therefore, you may cover a few main points and talk others briefly.(your post is a bit long, maybe you can shorten it)

Another point that you could consider is that you might have discussed more about your strengths and weaknesses or the projects.

PS: Good luck with the exams!
